Health Benefits of Yoga and Meditation

Yoga has been practiced by many people and it has been existing for generations. It's also incorporated with the word meditation. Many already know that Yoga is good for the body and the mind. Nevertheless, do they really know the actual benefits of Yoga? There really are many benefits that Yoga offers people. Some will find it surprising regarding what Yoga can do for the body.

Chinese Herbal Medicines Over The Centuries

Chinese medicine has evolved over thousands of years. One major difference between medicine in the east and the west is that the west treats the specific ailment and the east treats the whole body to keep that harmony and balance. Herbal medicine has also been associated with feng shui as together they are said to be the yin and yang in their way. The herbal medicine was central to good health to Lao Szu.
The reason that yoga helps you to lose weight is because it is dedicated to helping your body eliminate toxins.

We are full of toxins. From the food we eat to the air we breathe to the water we bathe in, toxins invade our body daily. Toxins can be found in almost every product we use daily, from the food we eat to our household cleaners.

Toxins are stored in your body fat.
Bramacharya is the fourth Yama, described by Maharishi Patanjali, in the Yoga Sutras. The literal definition of the root words, brahma and acarya, is "brahmic behavior." In fact, Bramacharya is also the first Asrama (stage of life for a Brahman), when a student lives a life of celibacy and purity, while studying the Vedas.

In the words of Swami Sivananda: "Celibacy is to a Yogi what electricity is to an electric bulb.
Asteya is the third Yama (restraint) mentioned by Maharishi Patanjali, within the Yoga Sutras. In short, Asteya may be defined as "non-stealing." However, the depth of this Yama goes much further. This is the Yama of giving to others.

There is an internal conflict about giving, but the Law of Karma and the Law of Attraction, agree about the end results of giving.
What is ahimsa? In the Yoga Sutras, Ahimsa is the first of the contemporary Yamas (restraints). Quite often, you hear the definition: "non-harming" is the meaning of Ahimsa. You may also hear "non-killing" or "non-violence" applied to the meaning of this demanding Yama.

How can I say this is a demanding Yama? Consider this: Whether you think humankind is inherently good, or bad, non-harming is very difficult.
Not so long ago, Yoga teachers, in the West, taught small groups of dedicated students in basements, garages, lofts, backyards, barns, or any other place that was convenient. As seasons changed, the location of the Yoga class would have to change too.

For example: If you live in a northern climate, practicing Yoga in a barn might not be suitable as winter approaches.

Yoga Teacher Training Exam Stress

Some situations are ironic. Yoga teachers often help their students with stress management techniques. Can you imagine a Yoga teacher intern stressed out over his or her exams? It happens more frequently than you think, but here is a way to finish your studies, without stress, and become a Yoga teacher, within a reasonable time frame.

Mark Twain said: "If you eat a frog, first thing in the morning, the rest of your day will be wonderful.
Is there a need for certification and standardization of Yoga teachers? How can you make the nine main Indian forms of Yoga, and their sub-styles, conform to a measured standard? Who should control and regulate Yoga?

Certifications, and attempts to standardize Yoga, are in their infancy. Yoga has existed quite well without bureaucracy for thousands of years.
Within the training, practice, and scriptures of Yoga are many treasures for humankind. How many people completely understand the Yogic path toward a trained mind? How many students of Hatha Yoga call their practice a workout?

It is true that physical mastery will be realized through the practice of Hatha Yoga, but the mental benefits are usually not realized within an exercise class.
